ECONOMIC GROWTH - SOCIAL INCLUSION - ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

In 2015, world leaders adopted a set of 17 global goals that make up a sustainable development agenda to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity. From the Aragón Film Commission we propose this decalogue of good practices to promote sustainable audiovisual productions.

LOCATE RESPONSIBLY:

When selecting production locations, the following sustainability criteria must be taken into account:

. Select as few locations as possible and try to make them close.

. Find out about the characteristics and environmental regulations of the locations.

. Consider the environmental effects that production could imply in the selected areas.

COMMUNICATE IN GREEN:

Communication is an essential tool in the implementation of sustainability measures in audiovisual productions, therefore:

. Inform and define with all departments the objectives and measures to be implemented in terms of sustainability.

. Define communication measures that make this new production model visible: informative posters, environmental memoranda, announcements in call sheets and checklists of sustainable actions.

. Publicize the experience and the environmental results obtained.

PROTECT LOCATIONS AND THEIR SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL ENVIRONMENT:

Depending on the type of production, the impact on the environment may be greater or lesser. To minimize the possible impacts, we recommend that you carry out these measures:

. It delimits and marks the occupation zones and identifies and protects the plants, trees, deposits or any other nearby heritage or natural resource.

. Minimize noise and avoid light pollution, especially if it is an outdoor location.

. Prevents possible inconvenience to citizens by establishing communication channels with town halls, neighborhood associations, etc.

. It promotes local employment and the inclusion of disadvantaged groups.

MOVE IN A SUSTAINABLE WAY:

Mobility planning in a production must be efficient but, in order to be more sustainable, you need to take into account:

. Locate the accommodation near the location.

. Avoid the individual use of vehicles and plan the use of the shared car.

. Optimize transport trips with the full load of the vehicles.

. It promotes the use of less polluting and / or electric vehicles.

IMPLEMENT A MORE SUSTAINABLE CATERING:

There are many possible measures to carry out a more sustainable catering, we select the following:

. If possible, hire a local catering service close to the vicinity of the location, promoting the economy of km 0

. If the location is located in the natural environment, it promotes the hiring of a catering service that encourages the purchase of local and seasonal products, reduces the consumption of meat and uses biodegradable or reusable crockery and cutlery, avoiding the use of resources to use and throw.

REDUCE MATERIAL CONSUMPTION:

. Avoid, whenever possible, the purchase of filming materials or elements, encouraging their rental.

. If materials need to be purchased, communicate sustainability goals to suppliers and select products with certificates of responsibility.

. Reduce the use of paper and prints. If its use is essential, promote certified ecological or recycled paper and vegetable printing inks.

REDUCE, REUSE RECYCLE:

Implementing measures aimed at the reduction, reuse, separation and recycling of waste, is becoming an easier task:

. Avoid acquiring disposable products.

. It encourages the reuse of materials and the compost of organic waste.

. Plan the volume, type and number of containers as well as their distribution in the location to promote separation.

MAKE AN EFFICIENT USE OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY:

Reducing energy consumption is possible through the implementation of energy efficiency measures:

. Educate and communicate energy efficiency habits: turn off lights when not necessary, avoid standby mode of electrical appliances, unplug chargers after use, etc.

. Employs efficient generator sets and class A appliances . Use energy efficient light bulbs.

GOOD PRACTICES IN THE USE OF WATER:

Water is a rare and expensive commodity. Reducing its consumption by making efficient use of it is possible:

. Avoid single-use packaged water bottles and provide reusable bottles and refill points.

. Avoid the load of pollutants from the discharge into the water by promoting the use of ecological or biodegradable cleaning products.

. Reduce water consumption with flow reduction measures in cisterns and sinks.

DO AN ENVIRONMENTAL MONITOR:

Evaluating the measures that have been implemented in a production based on a sustainable model is essential for its validation, both from society in general and from the film industry in particular. For it:

. Define sustainability roles in the work team or hire a Green Runner or Eco Advisor to carry out environmental monitoring of production.

. Design an environmental monitoring plan that includes checklists, a system of evaluation indicators or the calculation of the carbon footprint. If it is a protected natural area, coordinate these actions with its managing body.

. Compensates for emissions produced directly or through donations to local associations, foundations or companies.
